Playroom Ideas

So, one thing I love about our house is the open floorplan on the main level. It all flows so well together, and it's great for entertaining, something hubs and I do a lot. When we bought our house, we moved from an apartment, so we only had a kitchen table and chairs. Obviously, our new house had a formal dining room. Well, since then, we've gotten a new table and chairs in the kitchen area, but still have yet to do anything to the dining room. Or should I say playroom. Yes, this is my dining room:

Isn't it a shame Tinley is deprived of toys?! Ridic. '

Anyway, we've put in a new floor, painted the walls and trim, and installed a new light fixture, but that's as far as it goes. As I mentioned before, it's really convenient having the playroom downstairs right now; if I'm in the kitchen or the living room, I can still see and hear T playing, so I want this to stay the playroom for a few more years. But, I want to make it more like a playroom. Granted, hubs approves. So, here are a few ideas:

What do you guys think?!

  2. You asked...Love the white. Use fun, different colors ~ turquoise, coral, etc. as accent colors. Even patterns like polka dots/stripes/chevron (Don't use pink, unless it's fiscia, even though we know how much pink T has. lol) Use wicker baskets with removable fabric inserts. It's great to be able to remove them for washing. I always liked them better than plastic bins. Did you check out IKEA yet? Lots of ideas there. Have fun. Can't wait to see it. Oh, and put some music in there! :) Love ya Kel!

  3. Love all of your ideas!

We recently redid our loft area to accomodate all of Ava's toys. I got the Ikea shelving like in your last picture, but I did the shorter/long (the 4x2 cubes) on one wall and a short square one (4x4 cubes)on the other to form an "L" and have a basket in the bottom row for small toys and put a bigger toy (her vanity, puzzles, books) in the top row. It has decluttered a ton and looks cute! I have big plans for our room - just trying to get the hubs on board ;) LOVE all of your ideas and can't wait to see Tinley's swimsuits next week.

  7. Thanks so much Kelly for stopping by and checking out my son's first birthday monster bash party! I'm glad to know I am not the only one to go overboard on things like this, it's great to be in good company:) Can I just say your post above is awesome and perfect with timing. We are just now looking into designing an open floor type playroom area and I am so using some of your great inspirations! I really like the last one with the cool colors (I'm a big fan of green and blue); however, I know we would be putting in some orange too (it's my son's favorite color). I will definitely be following along as you make your decision and start designing I can't wait!!!
